Description
Voyage To India (2002) is Neo-Soul singer second studio record, originally released on Motown. It debuted at number six on the Billboard 200, topping the Top R&B and Hip-Hop albums charts. At the 2003 Grammy Awards, it won Best R&B Album. Voyage To India is Platinum in the United States.
As on her debut, there is a marked balance of organic and artificial: acoustic guitars, sampled beats, plenty of handclaps and finger snaps in simple but polished arrangements. The tracks Little Things, Talk To Her, and Slow Down are the albums highlights. The song Getting Together was also featured in the popular Shark Tale movie from 2004.
Anticipation and trepidation makes Voyage To India such a beautiful surprise; its a record that easily equals her 2001 debut (Acoustic Soul), but boasting better vocal performances, songwriting and accompanying production. Like Jill Scott, [MOVLP407] her delivery is one of the best of any Neo-Soul vocalist: earnest, playful, sexy and questing.
