Released in 1983, Uh-Huh followed-up John Mellencamps commercial breakthrough with 1982s American Fool and served as the first album where he reclaimed his real last name on the cover, yet still with the Cougar stage name intact at this point as well. If American Fool was Mellencamps commercial breakthrough then Uh-Huh was his artistic breakthrough as his songwriting chops were rapidly on the ascent. The well crafted triple-platinum effort reached No. 9 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the two Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hits Crumbling Down (No. 9) and Pink Houses (No. 8), as well as the Top 20 Authority Song.
