Description
2026 Repress.
Kieran Hebdens Four Tet seems to have arrived in its own permanent place. At the moment every record by this by now heritage brand feels like a classic. Sixteen Oceans which bears closest comparison with his 2017 set, New Energy, is no exception. In places it feels like the perfect accompaniment to the best slow swimming you will ever experience. At a time when lives are more often spent indoors, Sixteen Oceans feels very outdoors and bold. Partly its the way he uses field recordings and textures but its in the melodic choices too. Teenage Birdsong, one of the many standouts, sounds like To Rococo Rot playing in a lovely European field. This kind of graceful glaze is almost too perfect for these times. There are disruptions of course, a cheeky grin never far away as he inserts a little oddness into the flow. If the shop was open just now this would without doubt be a daily play, a record that we can all get on with.
