Groundbreaking band Sparks was founded by brothers Ron and Russell Mael in 1969. Releasing their eponymous full-length debut in 1972, the Los Angeles natives relocated to London where they released their breakout album Kimono My House, which remains influential to this day. By the release of 2000s Balls the duo had already lasted 30 years, and had gone though many stylistic changes, from glam to proto-electro to rock. 2002 opus Lil Beethoven percolates with esoteric polyrhythms of layered strings, arpeggiated piano, and orchestral percussion.
