Comfort of Strangers was Beth Ortons fourth album from 2005 and was produced by Jim ORourke. It is possibly Beths most intimate and personal work to date, and features 14 songs which are at times sad, funny, playful and poignant, romantic, always lyrical and on occasion even a touch sentimental. Comfort of Strangers represents a total sense of reinvention, a fabulous alchemy resulting from a set of simple rules that Beth Orton decided for the album, which included only analog recordings, with sparse arrangements and a spontaneous, almost live, feel. In fact its mostly a one take album two takes maximum, with minimal overdubs. Comfort of Strangers is a beautiful understated neo-folk album.
