Codes And Keys is the seventh studio album by Death Cab for Cutie, originally released in 2011. A much less guitar-centric album than the band ever made before, the band surprised the world with their compelling venture to new horizons.
As lead vocalist and guitarist Ben Gibbard stated: Its not a guitar-based record. Weve been into vintage keyboards and playing with that palette. Guitarist and producer Chris Walla stated: Guitar is great; its a really immediate, impulsive sort of instrument. But I think if we had strapped on guitars and gone into the studio with the intent of making a sort of live-ish sounding record, we definitely wouldve retreaded some of the territory that we were in for Narrow Stairs [MOVLP1376].
In 2011, the album received a Nomination in the 54th Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Music Album.
