Description

Stan Getzs Café Montmartre was recorded in two memorable live sessions at Copenhagens famous jazz club. The first took place on 6th July 1987, when he was joined by a superb quartet featuring pianist Kenny Barron, bassist Rufus Reid and drummer Ben Riley; the second recording took place during March 1991, a duet date alongside Barron. Café Montmartre, first released in 2002, represents the final significant recording from a truly great tenor saxophone player who influenced everyone from John Coltrane to Melody Gardot. Memorable cuts on the album include a haunting take on Billy Strayhorns Blood Count; a spellbinding, sparse version of Charlie Hadens First Song; a classic duet take on Mal Waldrons timeless Soul Eyes; and a mesmerising treatment of Benny Golsons tribute to trumpeter Clifford Brown.
