Bile & Celestial Beauty is latest release after a 12 year hiatus. The album will also be the South London-based bands first in their new four-strong line up, with Danton Supple joining the long-standing trio of Colorado-raised Karen Sheridan (vocals, keyboards) and Englishmen Fred Browning (vocals, guitar, keyboards) and Patrick Nicholson (electronics, keyboards, drums). Supple, whose production skills have been utilised by names as illustrious as Hole, Morrissey and Coldplay, has worked with the trio since their celebrated eponymous debut album for Setanta and its successor Virgin. Patrick Nicholson says: For R.O.C the studio is an instrument easily as much as anything else. Danton is the only person who can cope with the avalanche of sounds and the contrasting voices, and create a dramatic picture that holds together. Hes intrinsic to what we do. With two lead singers and a musical palette colliding numerous genres, R.O.C have never compromised or dumbed-down their unique approach to pander to fads and fashion. At the same time, theyve never lost sight of the big prize, namely the chance to make music with mass appeal while simultaneously subverting the mainstream, with a range of mischievous and subversive influences from the Velvets and Throbbing Gristle to Buju Banton and Burzum.
