Beatitudes is new beat tape for Stones Throw, which follows his full length album, A Wonderful Letter, released earlier this year on the label.
Beatitudes goes back to the artists roots as a DJ and turntablist and is made up of ten instrumental hip-hop tracks inspired by 20th Century gospel recordings.
The cover pays homage to the work of a painter known only as Harvey, an artist who created nearly 200 sleeves in the 1960s for gospel and jazz albums on Savoy Records and its subsidiary labels Gospel, Regent, and Sharp.
has been seminal force in the rise of instrumental hip-hop since the late 1980s. He has been a centre of gravity for the LA beat scene, and a staple of the Stones Throw roster for nearly two decades.
In addition to numerous mixtapes and his own production for Stones Throw releases, has been the DJ for Madlibs live shows since the early 2000s, he performed with Jaylib (Madlib and J Dilla) during the groups live events, and collaborated with Madlib on Beat Konducta Vol. 5-6: A Tribute to J Dilla.
has been touring the US and Japan since the release of A Wonderful Letter, and plans to perform in the UK and Europe in 2023.
