Description
Directed by Julie Taymor and starring Salma Hayek Alfred Molina, acclaimed 2002 biopic Frida chronicled the life surrealist Mexican painter Frida Kahlo shared unflinchingly and openly with Mexican muralist Diego Rivera, as the young couple took the art world by storm. From her complex and enduring relationship with her mentor and husband to her illicit and controversial affair with Leon Trotsky, to her provocative and romantic entanglements with women, Frida lived a bold and uncompromising life as a political, artistic, and sexual revolutionary. Fundamental to the film is its Academy Award winning soundtrack wonderfully balancing Mexican folk music performed by various Mexican artists and a moving score based on traditional Mexican music from composer Elliot Goldenthal.
