Description
Queen embodied 1970s glam rockmixing heavy riffs and intricate vocal harmonies with a gender-bending image. Freddie Mercurys operatic voice and Brian Mays guitar were multi-tracked ad infinitum to create pomp-rock in the grandest sense. In the 80s, Queen tried on rockabilly, disco, and more, but always returned to their arena-rock roots. Mercurys tragic AIDS-related death in 1991 effectively drew a line under the bands career. However the surviving trio never officially disbanded and in 2002 they unveiled the musical, WE WILL ROCK YOU. In late-2004, May and Taylor teamed up with Paul RodgersFree/Bad Company vocalistto perform at the UK Hall Of Fame Awards. The unlikely collaboration was then extended for a World tour the following year, and late-2006 plans for a new recording were announced.
