Description
One of the UKs most innovative, credible, charming and authentic artists, it is with much anticipation that Tinie Tempah returns with his second album, Demonstration. Like his multi-platinum selling debut Disc-Overy, Demonstration succeeds on many levels, not least because Tinie has once again delivered an innovative, bold, surprising, pioneering piece of work. There are no obviously constructed singles that follow the current sonic zeitgeist; rather, Demonstration is inhabited by a sense of musical adventure and an eclectic array of collaborators.
Initially Tinie began recording the album in the US, while on tour. But after a few sessions in LA and New York he became disillusioned. I began to lose the essence of what made me me, he points out. He decided to return to his roots, recording the entire album in the same Greenwich studio hed made street hits like Wifey and Tears. He also refused to settle for anything less than perfect; he had songs re-produced, re-mixed and re-vocalled numerous times until he was 100% certain they were perfect. He also enlisted Manny Marroquin, engineer for everyone from Tupac to Kanye and Usher. When I made Disc-Overy, Id meet a producer, spend a few hours with them, get a track and be like Ok, thanks, just grateful really. Now I know what Im doing, so I worked really hard on it. I scrutinized everything, every last lyric, every single flow. If I could do a song again, Id do it again after that. Im telling Zane what to add in, Diplo to change this or that, with a new-added confidence that I didnt have when I made Disc-Overy.
Its been three years since Tinie released Disc-Overy and much has changed in the Plumstead raised rappers life. Hes seen even more of the world, hes moved homes, gotten into the gym. His perspective on life has altered and matured, and with it, his musical one too. For the last year, Tinies focus has been on creating an album thats not only as good as his debut, but better. Demonstration is an album that underscores why he became such a star in the first place and reveals just how much bigger hes about to be; both in the UK and around the world.
On the Intro I say Im still the same person you knew, just multiplied by 10, says Tinie. The first album did amazingly well and I just hope the second album exceeds it. Whatever happens, this is an album that I believe in, that represents who I am. I just cant wait for people to hear it.
