Released in 2003, Keep On Your Mean Side is the debut album from The Kills — the raw, stripped-back duo of Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince. Recorded with minimal equipment and maximum attitude, it announced one of the most distinctive voices in garage rock and blues-punk of the decade.
Primitive, seductive and full of tension, the album draws on the spirit of early blues and punk without sounding like either. Superstition, Fried My Little Brains and Wait are among the standout tracks on a record that still crackles with energy and menace more than twenty years on.
