Description
Rival Sons are regarded as the modern blues rock discovery of recent years. They don’t sound retro or backward-looking at all. On the contrary, the quartet from Los Angeles knows how to breathe new life into one of the most traditional music styles in rock history. The recognition is correspondingly wide-ranging: from heavy metal magazines to established feature pages and pop radio, everyone can agree on the bluesy, earthy and, at times, soulfully warm sound of Rival Sons.
Their last album ‘Head Down’ was an international success and entered the charts in ten European countries. They also received the Classic Rock Award in the “Breakthrough Artist” category in 2012.
Here comes the quartet’s eagerly awaited fourth album ‘Great Western Valkyrie’.
Frontman Jay Buchanan reveals:
“I’d like to think that we became a bit more ourselves during the recording of this album, and our chosen influences are broader. You also immediately notice the fresh blood [of our new bassist David Beste] in the mix.
Woah, it’s like thunder coming out of his hands, which he transfers to the whole album. And my performance? I’d say ultimately it’s the same, but our producer Dave Cobb thinks it’s the best I’ve done so far. But what the hell does he know? People say the truth is in the eye of the beholder. I’d say the album is a dirty booklet hidden in a church hymnal.”
