The Agent Intellect, Protomartyr’s third album, was released in 2015. Drawing its title from philosophical ideas around the relationship between mind and self, the record sharpens the band’s tension between restraint and intensity.
Built from a large pool of fragments developed by guitarist Greg Ahee, the album moves between controlled, melodic moments and heavier, more driven passages. Tracks like I Forgive You, Clandestine Time, and Pontiac ‘87 balance clarity with a darker undercurrent.
Lyrically, Joe Casey focuses on interior states — memory, identity, and the instability of thought — carried through direct, unadorned delivery. The result is a record that leans on atmosphere and precision rather than scale.
