Released in 1994, Parklife is the album that provided the template for Britpop and remains one of the most distinctly English records ever made. While contemporaries looked to American grunge or their own pub-rock heroes, Blur drew from the Kinks and Small Faces to create something witty, ironic and irreverent — full of characters, observations and a deep affection for the mundane.
Girls & Boys, Parklife, End of a Century, To the End and This Is a Low are among the highlights on an album that captures a specific place and time — Britain in the mid-1990s — with a precision and warmth that has only grown with age. One of the great British albums.
