Basia Bulat releases her highly anticipated third album Tall Tall Shadow on 30th September via Secret City Records. Tall Tall Shadow is co-produced with Grammy-winning engineer Mark Lawson (for Arcade Fires The Suburbs) and Tim Kingsbury (Arcade Fire).

Basias vocals have been described as mesmerizing by Q magazine and vicious and full-bodied by the Guardian. While overseas, Pitchfork have praised her rare, extraordinary voice and SPIN have hailed her music a heart-wrenching tour de force.

Tall Tall Shadow follows Basiaa previous albums Oh, My Darling (2007) and Heart Of My Own (2010), which Drowned in Sound called gold, and a string of high profile live shows throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and Australia. Basia has shared a stage with among others Andrew Bird, St Vincent, Beirut, Tuneyards, Arcade Fire and Nick Cave. She has also collaborated with Owen Pallett, who created orchestral arrangements of a selection of Basias songs that have been performed by the Halifax Symphony Orchestra, Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra and the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. Basia has also been invited in recent years to aid in feting Canadian legends Leonard Cohen (for the Glenn Gould Prize in 2012) and Daniel Lanois (for the Governor Generals Award in April 2013).

Tall Tall Shadow is inspired in equal parts by tragic loss and abundant joy. Writing songs, Basia says, Ive been trying to just get out of my own way just trying to be truthful with myself about the kind of thoughts and feelings that are coming up. Musically, its a departure from her previous albums. I felt braver, exploring the boundaries of folk music some people know me for, she says. The songs were primarily written on piano as opposed to Basias usual autoharp and guitar and while the Andean charango features heavily, theres a move from a more traditional to an electronic sound. Bulat says, I wanted a challenge something different, which her co-producers helped to provide in the studio. Mark hears things in my songs that surprise me, she says, adding Tims my good luck charm; he can play almost anything, and my best vocal takes happen whenever hes in the room.
