Description

Jackson 5s 1971 Greatest Hits Collection Returns on Colored Vinyl LP in Rare, Sought-After Quad Mix Mastered and Cut by Alex Abrash at AA Mastering.

Few groups have started their careers with quite the impact that the Jackson 5 made in their first two years. After being discovered, by Diana Ross, the family group from Gary, Indiana had an unbelievable 1970, hitting No. 1 on the US charts with their first four singles. Then came two No. 2s and two more top 20 hits. More than enough, then, for their first compilation album. Greatest Hits made its chart debut in January 1972.

The collection started with their first two chart-toppers, I Want You Back and ABC, and although it wasnt chronological in its track listing, it featured all of their first eight hits nine, in fact, if you include I Found That Girl, which was listed on the charts as a double A-side with their third No. 1, The Love You Save. Also included was the fourth single in that run, Ill Be There; the No. 2 singles Mamas Pearl and Never Can Say Goodbye; Maybe Tomorrow, which only made No. 20; and new recording Sugar Daddy, which went to No. 10 pop and No. 3 R&B.

The rare, sought-after quad mix of the album was originally issued only in Japan in 1975. This new edition includes alternate vocals and adds some instrumentation that isnt heard in the much-loved single and album mixes of the tracks. The quad mixes are the stereo folds, so the new vinyl LP editions do not require a special decoder or four speakers for listeners to enjoy them. Original four-channel analog masters from the Motown vault were used as the audio source for the new LP edition. They were mastered and cut by Alex Abrash at AA Mastering.
